U16’s County Cup – 29th September 2024
The U16’s team’s final fixture of the year saw them visit The Manor (Kingstone), in Staffordshire, for the County Cup. With last year’s event being wiped out due to the weather there were fears this event could suffer the same fate given the amount of rain the course had received in the previous week. The format of the event is scratch stroke play with 5 out of 6 scores counting.
Captain Oliver Badger (Hagley GC) returned the best score for the team with a 2 over par 73. Harry Evans and Hayden Sarfo also played well and returned respectable scores on what was a tricky course. Unfortunately, the increasingly windy conditions did not help the boys who started their rounds later in the day. Derbyshire ran out comfortable winners of the event posting an impressive 12 over for their 5 scores, and our congratulations go to them. With only 8 shots separating 5 places we were only able to finish 9th. Despite this disappointing result there are some positives to take into the forthcoming winter coaching.
My thanks go to Kevin Fee and Luke Perry for their assistance and to County President, John Whitehead, and his wife Linda, for braving the cold and damp to support the boys on the day.
Finally, I would like to thank all the players who have represented the team this year and to all the parents who have transported and supported them throughout the season.
