Worcester G&CC players, with both the Droitwich Shield & Kidderminster Cup, won at Droitwich GC - 26th September 2021
The 2020-2021 Inter-Club Knockout Finals Day took place at a beautifully prepared Droitwich GC on Sunday 26th September 2021 - some 5 months later than planned due to the pandemic.
This year there was a new trophy up for grabs - The Redditch Trophy - which had been presented to the County by Redditch GC, following a great idea put forward by their member Paul Taylor. This event was for club teams of 6 players, all over 55, and with handicaps in the range 10-24. playing 3 x 4BBB matches.
Droitwich Shield
The timetable of events, meant that the 3 Droitwich Shield scratch foursome matches teed off first. This turned out to be an exciting match - the first two games were shared between Moseley and Worcester G&CC, and thus it all came down to the final match, which stood AS on the 18th tee. Worcester G&CC team captain, Ben Woodward, struck a beautiful tee shot to the par 3 18th, and the birdie putt was dispatched by his partner, Duncan Macpherson, to win the hole, and take their game 1up, and hence the overall match by a score of 2-1.

Kidderminster Cup
The second match out was the Kidderminster Cup, being 3 scratch foursome matches for players 55 and older.
Worcester G&CC took control early in all three matches, and still led in all 3 at the turn. Despite a sterling effort from the Moseley players they couldn't overturn the half way scores and Worcester G&CC took all three matches to win the Kidderminster Cup 3-0.

Redditch Trophy
The 3 handicap 4BBB games between Redditch GC and Dudley GC, made up the 3rd final to tee off. Once again this was to be an exciting match, with the 1st game out going to Dudley GC, and the 3rd game being won by Redditch GC. All the pressure was therefore on the 2nd match, and after a great tussle, the Redditch GC pair of George Ostroumoff & Gareth Beynon completed a 2&1 victory on the 17th green, to take the overall match 2-1 for Redditch.

R&A Salver
The 4th and final final (!) of the day was the R&A Salver, being a 4BBB handicap match for players with handicaps in the range 18.6-28.4.
The final would be contested by Tom McGovern & Dan Kavanagh representing Hagley GC, and Gareth Davies & Paul Stainton representing Fulford Heath GC.
This game would provide the tightest finish of the entire day, with 18 holes not being enough to separate the sides. However, Tom & Dan completed a fine win on the 19th hole.

The County are very grateful to Droitwich GC for agreeing to host these Inter-Club Knockout Finals at late notice, and for providing such a beautiful course for the players.
The players were hugely impressed by the standard of the course and all winning captains asked the County to pass on their thanks to the Droitwich GC Greens Team.
During the presentations, County President Ian Rone, thanked all the players for taking part in the competitions, which started back in October 2020. Ian also thanked the 3 referees who looked after the finals - John Whitehead, John Brothwood & Clive Werrett - and Debbie Pritchard for helping out with the administration. Ian was too bashful to thank himself for doing all the starting!
