The U14’s finished the season with a crisp, cold day at Pitcheroak Golf Club playing against S&H. The course was in exceptional condition and the welcome from the club was superb once again.
A strong first pairing saw Nick Campbell our 2024 captain partner Ciaran Hession-Wilson and the Worcestershire boys were 1up early on. They remained up for most of the match and then on the 17th green Nick rolled in a beautiful 12ft birdie putt to seal the first match 2&1. Both Nick and Ciaran will be moving up to the U16’s next year and they were delighted to finish with a win at this level. The second match saw Logan Lawless partner Edward Perry and the boys were up against a very strong S&H pairing in Harry Slater and George Smith. The Worcestershire pair were 1up early on but a run of winning holes from the S&H boys saw them 2up at the turn. A nice birdie from Logan on the 10th kept the boys in touch. Edward Perry was then an inch away from a hole in one on the 12th after a delightful tee shot but his birdie only managed a halve and the boys went on to lose 3&2 on the 16th green. The next match featured Kai Russell and Oskar Nielsen. The Worcestershire boys were 3down early on but a lovely run of holes on the back nine saw Kai & Oskar take a 1up lead down the last. After a lovely tee shot from Oskar it was left to the S&H player to hole a 10ft putt to draw the match and he duly delivered. The next two matches saw some strong wins for Worcestershire. Ewan Clark was in fine form in his final match at U14 level and he partnered Jenson Chan to a 5&4 win. The final pairing saw Theo Lowe and Will Hadley take on an experienced S&H pairing. Theo was striking his irons really well and produced a run of birdies to put the Worcestershire boys in a strong position and they went on to win 5&4 and secure the overall win for the team.
Congratulations to the boys for such a strong performance and good luck to all the boys moving on the U16’s team. My thanks go to Pitcheroak for such wonderful hospitality and in particular to Paul who did such a great job as starter. I would also like to say thanks to Kevin Fee who was there on the day to support and advise the boys as he has done throughout the season.
