The sun was shining as the Worcestershire boys arrived at the glorious Evesham Golf course for an U14 match versus Derbyshire. The course was looking in spectacular condition and both teams were eager to start.

First out for Worcestershire was our captain Nick Campbell and his playing partner Logan Lawless. This was a high quality match against the talented Derbyshire captain Luca Abraham and Liam Dixon. It was close throughout and Derbyshire maintained a narrow lead until the 14th hole when Nick held a long putt to draw the match level. Then on the next hole a great approach shot from Logan saw the Worcestershire team go 1 up and they held onto this until the final hole. Both teams were on the green and it required a controlled two putt from Logan to seal the win and he duly delivered.

The next match was another classic with Harry McCarthy and Theo Lowe showing some excellent resilience to come from behind. The Worcestershire pair were up early on but soon found themselves down at the turn. Some excellent iron shots from Theo and lovely putts from Harry saw them run out 2&1 winners on the 17th green.

The third match saw an excellent team performance from Ewan Clark and Edward Perry. A strong start saw the Worcestershire boys go 3up through five holes. However, after winning 6 holes on the bounce the Derbyshire team were soon 3up and on a charge. The turning point was an outstanding up and down out of sand from Ewan to win the 12th hole and this completely changed the momentum of the match. Further good play from Ewan saw the match all square after the 14th hole. Edward then hit a superb tee shot on to the 16th green and made par to put the Worcestershire boys 1up and they held on to secure a narrow win on the last.

The fourth match saw the Worcestershire pair of Kai Russell and Ciaran Hession-Wilson team up for the first time. Some good early pars were countered by the Derbyshire team and the boys found themselves 3 down through five holes. Despite a great effort from the Worcestershire pair they eventually lost 6&5.

In the final match Jenson Chan made his county debut playing alongside Oskar Nielsen. The boys were up throughout the match but never by more than two holes. A superb chip from Jenson on the 9th extended the lead to 2up but a fightback on the back nine saw the match all square after the 15th hole. The match went down the last and it was left to Jenson to secure the win and a 4-1 Worcestershire win.

I would like to pay special thanks to Evesham golf club and its members. The welcome for both teams was exceptional and the condition of the course was impressive. I would like to thank Tom Waldron, Ian Griffiths and John Whitehead for their support on the day and to all the parents for their continued support this season.
