Worcestershire U14 v Gloucestershire U14
The U14 team faced Gloucestershire at Little Lakes GC on Sunday 16th June. The weather was very kind to us on the day after some recent downpours the course was playing well.
The first match turned out to be a classic with both Jake Jeff-Johnston and Will Andrews playing some excellent golf. The Gloucestershire team were up most of the front nine but by the 14th the Worcestershire pair had turned the game around to go one up. The match was all square going down the last and could have gone either way. A great up and down from the Gloucestershire player saw them win 1 up. Our captain Nick Campbell partnered Logan Lawless in the next match. Both the lads played particularly well to earn a 2&1 win with our captain Nick holing the winning putt on the 17th green. In the next match the Worcestershire pair of Ciaran Hession Wilson and Edward Perry were 2 up through two holes and remained on top throughout. Both the Worcestershire boys played outstanding tee shots to the tricky 15th hole and made par to win the match 5&3. The overall result was in the balance at this point with the final two matches going down there was some nervous faces amongst the parents. In the fourth group Oskar Nielsen and Will Hadley had impressively drew all square on the 16th after trailing 3 down at the turn. The boys worked really hard and just missed out on the last to lose 1 down. In the final match Kai Russell and Theo Lowe made some unbelievable putts to go 3 up through three holes but the match was back to 1 up after nine holes. The match then remained very tight with the Gloucestershire boys eventually making a birdie on the last to win 2 up. It wasn’t meant to be for the Worcestershire team on the day but the effort and ability shown bodes well for our future matches.
The match was played in a lovely spirt throughout and I would like to thank their team manager Tom Gillespie and the Gloucestershire team for such a nice day. My thanks go to Little Lakes staff who once again provided us with excellent food and hospitality. Finally I would like to thank our president John Whitehead and our junior county organiser Kevin Fee for their help on the day. Kevin provided us with a masterclass on how to be a starter and the boys really appreciated all the support on the day.
