Worcestershire U18s vs Derbyshire U18s
Thursday 8th August 2024
U18’s end league season with draw.
It was an early start for our U18s team who ended their league season with a trip to Morley Hayes in Derbyshire for this re-scheduled match. The morning started in bright skies, with an exuberant Worcestershire team looking to finish on a high.
The morning session got off to a brisk start with some great golf played by both teams in tricky windy conditions. The new pairing of Lewis Tolley and Harry Fall soon took control of their match and never looked in trouble easing to a 4&3 win. This was soon followed by the third match where the ever reliable pairing of Alex Perry and Teddy Fee produced some stunning golf around the turn and ran in 5&3 winners. The other 2 matches were close all the way round but Derbyshire just edging them, leaving the score 2 points each at lunch with all to play for in the afternoon singles session.
With the weather now turning nasty and heavy rain and wind, it was Harry Evans who led the way for Worcs in a high quality-opening match and managed to produce a 3&2 win which was just the start Worcs were looking for. The next point for Worcs came from Alex Perry who had a tremendous match with his opponent, with Alex eventually wining 2 up. Lewis Tolley was not far behind with another assured performance and comfortably taking his match 4&3. In the penultimate match Harry Fall seemed in control going dormy 3, but lost 16 and 17 which meant he was 1 up with 1 to play and Worcs needing a win to ensure they couldn’t lose the match, however Harry kept his nerve and played 18 solidly winning the hole and winning his match 2up.
This meant the afternoon singles finished 4-4 and a draw overall.
Result – Derbyshire 6 Worcestershire 6
Our thanks goes to everyone at Morley Hayes GC. The course was in immaculate condition, the catering staff for the excellent food. Special thanks must go to Luke Perry for all of his help and support on the day.
