An inexperienced U18's team come so very close against Warwickshire.

On a glorious sunny spring day, our U18's team took on Warwickshire at Dudley GC.

Five of our team were making their U18s league debut, although most had played u16s level.

Our opening pairing of Harry Evans and Matt Vickers fought hard, but it was our second pairing of stand-in captain Teddy Fee and Alex Perry that earnt us our first point with an impressive 2&1 victory. The Bromsgrove pairing of Harry Hawkesford & Joe Lonergan and the Hartpury pairing of Lewis Tolley & Callum Jones also winning their matches comfortably, 3&2 and 4&3 respectively, giving Worcs a 3-1 lead at lunch which we were delighted with.

The Warwickshire team came out in inspired form winning 5 of the first 6 singles matches with some outstanding golf on a tricky course, with only the impressive Matt Vickers winning his match on his league debut 2&1.

Lewis Tolley had a ding-dong match with never more than 1 or 2 holes in it but eventually ran out winning 2&1. That left the anchor match with Callum Jones 3 down with 4 to play going birdie, par, birdie, to take the match down the 18th, which was halved in par to earn Callum a well-deserved half in the match but meant Warwickshire ran out winners 6.5 to 5.5 overall.

I would like to thank Dudley Golf Club for making us extremely welcome throughout the day, the green staff for the presentation of the course, also to Jason (Club Capt) who acted as starter, and Chris (club president) and the catering team for looking after us so well. I would like to congratulate Warwickshire and wish them luck for the rest of the season.

A special thank you to all of our parents for taking and collecting the lads. My thanks to Mark Evans and Alex Band for all of their help and John Whitehead for his support on the day.

However, my greatest thanks goes to every one of those eight boys. Their attitude, enthusiasm and teamwork was exemplary and they came so close to pulling off what would have been a great victory.
