Our U14 team started the season hosting Warwickshire at Little Lakes GC. The weather was absolutely stunning and the course was in excellent condition so the boys were excited to get the season underway.
A strong first pairing saw Alex Perry our 2023 captain partner Jake Jeff-Johnston and the Worcestershire boys were 2 up very early on. However, some spectacular birdies saw the Warwickshire pair fight back and go 3 up on the 12th. Both Alex and Jake had to dig deep and a birdie from Jake on the 17th and par from Alex on the tricky 18th saw Worcestershire secure a narrow win. In the second match both Hayden Sarfo and Max Wesley were up against it early on giving away the most shots of the day. Both boys keep fighting all the way and only lost the match 2&1 on the 17th green. The next match saw our past captain Harry Evans partner Oskar Nielsen. It was a very tight match throughout and Worcestershire were marginally on top during the front nine. A chip in saw Warwickshire edge ahead on the 16th and although Harry birdied the 17th it wasn’t enough to save the match. It all came down to our four debutants in the final groups and boy did they deliver. Leo Edwards and Nicholas Campbell winning 3&2 even though Leo didn’t have a driver. Then the biggest victory of the day came from Will Andrews and Logan Lawless who won 6&4 after a strong start with a series of nett birdies.
Congratulations to such an inexperienced team for such a strong performance in their first match of the season. My thanks go to Little Lakes for such good hospitality and a lovely Sunday Roast. I would also like to thank our junior organiser Mark Hewlett Snr for all his hard work behind the scenes and to Mark Evans for his help on the day.
