The U14’s travelled to Derbyshire to play at Shirland GC. The weather was lovely and the course looked in lovely condition We are very lucky this year to have such a talented U14 team and this was on show again with another strong lineup.
Out first was our captain Alex Perry who found himself two up through four holes after back-to-back birdies. Lovely putts on the 10th and 11th saw him extend this lead to 4 up before a good fightback from the Derbyshire boys saw lead reduced to one by the 15th. A lovely birdie on the 16th and a par on the 17th saw him win the match 3&1.
Harry Evans & Oli Ansell took control of their match very early on. Harry holed a 20ft putt on the 4th to move further ahead. The match got closer through the turn but some solid play on the 14th and 15th saw the Worcestershire boys win 4&3.
Arguably the best performance of the day came from both Beau Langford & Jake Jeff-Johnston. The pair were both playing some excellent golf and early birdies saw them go 4 up on the front nine. The score remained the same until Beau closed out the match 4&3 with a lovely putt on the 15th
Oskar Nielsen & Nicholas Campbell formed a strong partnership in the next match. Both boys were scoring well and the pressure on Derbyshire was relentless. A great putt from Oskar on the 14th put the boys 4 up and a good par from Nicholas on the 15th saw us win the match 5&3.
In the final match Will Andrews & Logan Lawless were behind early on. A great fightback saw the boys take the lead on the 15th before losing the 17th and going down the last a/s. The match could of gone either way on the 18th green with both sides having chances but a halve was a fair result.
I would like to thank the course for such a lovely welcome and Ian from Derbyshire for organising the day. Thanks to Mark Evans for his help and to the parents for their excellent support and travelling such a long way.
